VanMatre Motor Company was incorporated in 1957 by Herbert VanMatre in St Louis, Missouri, with his son Lynn VanMatre. In 1980 Lynn VanMatre purchased the Buick franchise in Cape Girardeau. Soon after, Lynn's son, Mark VanMatre, joined the business. They operated the Buick dealership on the corner of Sprigg and independence until 1989. The present location, 511 S Kingshighway, opened in the spring of 1989 as brand new full service, sales, service, parts and body shop for Buick Motor division of General Motors.

In 2005 Lynn VanMatre retired and Mark VanMatre, with a team of current long time management, bought his shares and continued the tradition of selling Buicks and premium pre owned autos. In 2007 Pontiac and GMC brands were added, along with 12 long term employees of Cape GMC Pontiac. In January 2008 the Cadillac brand was added as well as 2 of Crown Cadillac's Certified employees. 2008 was an exciting year for us as we celebrated our 28th year in Cape Girardeau. We expanded our Service and Body Shop as well as our parking lot to better serve our customers. Also the building received a complete face lift in order to meet the stringent standards of excellence General Motors expects from its dealers as we move forward.
